About Us – Greater Kenridge

The Greater Kenridge Neighbours Committee (GKNC) consists of volunteers who work together to cultivate a thriving, multi-generational community who stands for safety, cleanliness, environmentally responsible solutions and a strong sense of togetherness.

Our vision for Kenridge is to create a welcoming and supportive community where every resident feels valued, connected, and empowered. We envision a neighborhood where neighbours come together to share resources, celebrate diversity, and address common challenges. Through our community website, we aspire to be the central hub for information, resources, and activities that promote social cohesion, civic engagement and collective action. Together we envision a vibrant and climate resilient community that thrives in harmony with its environment, enriching the lives of all who call Kenridge home.

The Kenridge neighborhood in Durbanville has a rich history dating back to its establishment in the mid-20th century. Originally part of a larger farm called Door de Kraal, the area underwent significant development and transformation during the 1950s and 1960s, transitioning from agricultural land to a residential suburb. The suburb of Kenridge was officially established in the early 1960s, with the construction of residential homes and the establishment of amenities such as schools, parks, and shopping centers. The neighborhood was named after Kenridge Farm, a historic farmstead that once occupied the area.

The original farmhouse dating back to 1921 can still be seen in Tulbach Road.
