World Wetlands Day 2024
Friday 2 February was World Wetlands Day. To celebrate the day, 17 volunteers showed up to clean the Kenridge Park’s wet seasonal vlei areas on Saturday 3 February. Between the ages of 7 and 70 and in as little time as an hour, the volunteers cleared out 14 bags or rubbish and managed to remove about 50 invasive trees sprouting in the stormwater channel. They also pulled out Thistles, some Burr Clover and Patterson’s Curse. A trained gardener of the Wildflower Stepping Stones Project (WSSP) joined the efforts and spent the rest of the day neatening protected areas.
This event was a collaboration between the Wildflower Stepping Stones Project (WSSP) and the Greater Kenridge Neighbours Committee (GKNC).
A heartfelt thank you to each and every volunteer, young and old. Their dedication is a true celebration of community and environmental care.
